This is where the sole-print designs live. The construction is usually plain: a solid or lightly patterned sock with the payload knitted across the bottom of the foot, sometimes split across both feet so the message only completes when the ankles cross.

Read the wording carefully before you buy. Several of these are aimed at a specific relationship, and a saying that is affectionate from a spouse is odd from a coworker. The listings do not warn you about that.

Two-foot jokes

A chunk of this section prints half a sentence per foot. Those photograph badly, because a product shot shows one sock, and the listing image often shows the pair crossed at an angle that cuts a word. Where a design works that way, the page says what the whole line reads.

Plain-text designs also age better than picture designs. A slogan in white on black does not look dated after a year the way a cartoon does, and it survives the wash cycle with less visible cracking because there is less ink area to distort.
